Home | Smile Malawi Childrens' Centre> | Ndokota The Road to Ndokota The rural community of Ndokota is only 40 minutes from the city of Blantyre yet is totally dependent on its own food crops which have been severely affected by drought and the indirect impact of Aids. The villagers' simple huts are widely dispersed across the countryside and many families consist of three or four children and a single mother. There are no facilities in the area other than an overcrowded primary school. Smile Malawi established its base on land acquired next to the village in 2004 and has since built trust with the local people and employed many to help with the building and running of the Centre. During the famine of 2005 the charity distributed 30 tonnes of food to the local community to help them through the worst period.
